Summary of Position

Kanbe’s Markets is a quickly growing 501(c)3 creating fresh food access and mitigating food waste in Kansas City. In just nine years, Kanbe’s has rescued and redirected millions of pounds of food, reinvested over $260,000 back into the local community, and today, serves approximately 250,000 Kansas Citians with fresh food access in communities deemed “low-access” by the USDA.

 

Building strong donor relationships is vital to the expansion of Kanbe’s mission. As Kanbe’s grows its efforts and impact, the Development team is seeking a thoughtful and motivated leader to cultivate and steward relationships with individual investors to the organization. This position will be responsible for attaining an annual fundraising goal of $400,000 in 2026.

 

The Position Overview

The Impact Giving Manager will be responsible for: leading and deepening relationships with their portfolio by curating an exceptional donor experience; creating a clear channel to introduce new individuals to the organization (including leading tours, scheduling coffees, etc.); tracking all touchpoints in Virtuous CRM and HubSpot; and leading the logistical planning and day-of execution of key series fundraising events such as the Ugly Dinner and Ugly Happy Hour series.

 

This role is based in Kansas City, MO and is part of the Kanbe’s Development team, reporting to the Director of Strategic Development.

 

Responsibilities

Core Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manage a portfolio of individual donors and develop an exceptional and highly personalized donor experience for these individuals.
    • Create a clear system for introducing new partners to the organization.
    • Build streamlined processes for donors who give between $1,000 and $7,500 annually.
    • Meticulously track all touchpoints within Virtuous CRM and HubSpot and improve workflows on these platforms.
    • Lead all logistical planning and day-of execution for key fundraising events such as Ugly Dinners and Ugly Happy Hours.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

    • 1+ years of experience in the people-side of a revenue earning operation (Fundraising, Sales, and/or Business Development).
    • Understands the fundamentals of building lasting relationships.
    • Willingness to go above and beyond for building relationships and cultivating connections.
    • Possess experience in CRM systems (such as HubSpot).
    • Has a passion for curating meaningful engagements with people and speaking on behalf of a mission-driven organization.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Enjoys a quick-paced workplace and managing multiple tasks at once.

 

Preferred Skills

    • An enthusiasm for managing processes and improving documentation and workflows.
    • A creative mindset and strong willingness to propose and implement new ideas.
    • Familiarity with the produce industry or food distribution.
    • Desire to engage with the Kansas City community and introduce a network to a growing organization in the food access space.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

Salary: $60,000–$65,000, commensurate with experience.

Benefits: Full-time (40 hours per week) position with health, vision, and dental insurance and retirement plan with matching.

PTO: Up-to 176 hours of paid time off annually, available after 90 days of continuous employment.

Impact Description

  • Own: what is this person singularly responsible for? Why does this role exist/what’s the business need?
    • Portfolio Management: Lead fundraising initiatives for assigned portfolio of donors and expand this portfolio as needed.
    • One-to-One Communication: Develop a strong and highly personalized communication strategy with donors.
    • Gift Solicitation: Solicit and collect donations to support the mission of Kanbe’s.
    • Process/Procedure Development: Set a precedent for how relationships should be managed with this group of donors, and codify processes and procedures into actionable, replicable steps.
    • Event Planning: Oversee the logistical planning and day-of execution of key fundraising events such as Ugly Dinners and Ugly Happy Hours.
  • Assist: what will this person be involved in, or collaborate with other individuals + teams on?
    • Event Strategy: Lean in on all event planning as needed and communicate event updates to their portfolio regularly.
    • Development Team Support: Step in and assist the team as needed on additional fundraising projects and objectives.
  • Teach: what experience does this person need to possess? What should they come in already knowing? What do we need an expert on
    • Revenue Management: Understands how to be part of a people-facing revenue function at an organization (in-person preferred) and has a strong instinct for best practices and personalization.
    • Speaking to Philanthropic Audiences: Knows how to communicate with the donor community through both written and verbal communications.
  • Learn: since no one is perfect, what are the “nice to haves”? What can they learn on the job? What do they not know yet that will be critical to their success?
    • Food systems: The food system is large, complex, far reaching, and broken at the systemic level. Being interested in learning about this is crucial to success in this role, but it is not crucial to bring that knowledge.
    • Fresh Produce: Kanbe’s is responsible for quickly triaging and delivering fresh produce in the most efficient/effective way possible. This is something that we are more than happy to teach prospective applicants.
    • Logistics/trucking: We are at our core, a distribution company. However, this role does not necessarily need to have experience in distribution logistics to be successful.

Within 1 month, you’ll

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of organizational structure. Including all team members' roles and responsibilities.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of strategic vision for organization, both short and long term.
  • Possess a working knowledge of all operating software, and tools. Including G-Suite, HubSpot, Virtuous, Asana, and Slack.
  • Possess a working knowledge of their assigned portfolio, as well as current organizational standards and fundraising best practices.

Within 3 months, you’ll

  • Have developed and implemented a weekly, monthly, and quarterly process for engaging with their portfolio.
  • Feel comfortable reaching out to individuals to schedule meetings, tours, extend invitations, and solicit donations.
  • Possess a keen understanding of their portfolio's donor history.
  • Lead all logistical and day-of execution for major fundraising events.

Within 6 months, you’ll

  • Routinely make fundraising asks and steward their portfolio.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond in creating personalized touchpoints.
  • Take charge in developing replicable fundraising processes.
  • Fully own series fundraising event execution.

Within 12 months, you’ll

  • Have met/exceeded a $400,000 fundraising goal.
  • Know your portfolio better than anyone else at Kanbe’s.
  • Guide vision for this piece of the organization’s development for the following calendar year.
