POSITION SUMMARY

The Distribution Manager is responsible for leading and directing all warehouse and distribution operations to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient movement of all incoming and outgoing shipments. This role oversees product picking, receiving, inventory control, and adherence to FIFO standards while driving a culture of safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

 

The Distribution Manager ensures that all materials and finished goods are handled in accordance with company standards, maintaining product integrity, minimizing claims, and preventing shortages. This position will also lead the annual physical inventory processes of FG’s, monitor daily cycle counts, and ensure operational excellence through effective leadership, process discipline, and team development.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Operational Leadership

  • Manage all daily distribution operations including receiving, picking, staging, shipping, and transportation coordination.
  • Ensure all inbound and outbound shipments are processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Enforce FIFO (First-In, First-Out) practices for all inventory movements to maintain product freshness and traceability.
  • Drive accountability across the team for accuracy, timeliness, and quality of work.

 

· Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Lead all inventory management activities including daily cycle counts, reconciliation of discrepancies, and annual physical inventory.
  • Maintain traceability of all products, ensuring system accuracy matches physical stock levels.
  • Identify and address root causes of inventory variances; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

 

· Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized distribution environment at all times.
  • Enforce company safety policies, conduct routine safety audits, and lead incident investigations when necessary.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by ensuring all associates follow proper lifting, storage, and material handling procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.

 

· Claim & Shortage Reduction

  • Proactively eliminate claims by ensuring accuracy in picking, packaging, and documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on all shipment or inventory errors and implement corrective/preventive measures.

  • Maintain zero tolerance for falsified documentation or shipment discrepancies.

· Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and develop a team of warehouse associates and forklift operators, providing consistent coaching, feedback, and training.
  • Assign workloads, monitor productivity, and ensure adherence to performance and safety expectations.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment built on trust, respect, and accountability.

 

· Process Standardization & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all warehouse functions.
  • Implement Lean and 5S methodologies to improve efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Production, and Procurement teams to ensure smooth product flow and information accuracy.

 

· Reporting & Communication

  • Track and report on key performance metrics (KPIs) related to shipment accuracy, inventory variance, on-time performance, and safety.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all inbound/outbound activities, including bills of lading, receiving reports, and inventory adjustments.
  • Communicate regularly with leadership and other departments to align priorities and resolve operational issues promptly

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role.

  • Demonstrated ability, and desire, to lead and develop a high-performing team in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment.

  • Proficient in operating and training others on sit-down and stand-up forklifts; forklift trainer certification required upon hire.

  • Experience managing logistics across multiple locations, including coordinating shipments, transfers, and tracking documentation.

  • Strong understanding of inventory control procedures, including conducting physical counts, cycle counts, and variance reconciliation.

  • Proficiency in completing and approving employee timecards, monitoring attendance, and ensuring accurate labor reporting.

     

  • Proven ability to implement and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Knowledge of OSHA workplace safety regulations and experience conducting safety audits and enforcing compliance.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate frontline staff.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Flexible availability, including potential evening, weekend, or holiday coverage based on business needs.
