Position Summary

The Assistant Camp Property Manager plays a critical role in supporting the upkeep, safety and guest‐experience of our property/facility assets. Working under the supervision of the Camp Property Manager or Director of Camp Properties, this position will perform preventive maintenance, respond to work orders, assist with building repairs, grounds/landscape support, coordinate with vendors/contractors. As a hands-on member of the property team, the Assistant helps create a welcoming and program-ready environment for Girl Scout members and visitors, while ensuring compliance with safety procedures and equipment use policies.

 

Location: Camp Tongawood – Tonganoxie, KS (must reside within 15–30-minute drive)
Status: Full-Time, Hourly

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general handyman skills (carpentry, painting, plumbing/fixtures, minor electrical) in addition to custodial and camp property groundskeeping tasks.
  • Support setup, custodial needs, and teardown of camp areas in preparation for Girl Scout programming, events, and community rentals.
  • Complete assigned work orders and communicate progress, needs, or concerns to the Camp Property Manager or Director.
  • Operate power tools and equipment (e.g., mowers, weed trimmers, utility vehicles, tractor, skidsteer) safely and in accordance with training and policy.
  • Ensure proper use and care of council equipment, tools, and supplies; report malfunctions or repairs needed.
  • Maintain accurate records for tasks completed and assist in routine inspections of camp infrastructure.
  • Provide timely and courteous support to staff, volunteers, and guests using camp property.
  • Respond to weather-related or urgent site conditions (e.g., debris clearing, storm prep) as assigned.
  • Follow all safety, health, and risk management procedures including ACA, OSHA, and council-specific policies.
  • Represent the property in a professional manner when interacting with contractors, vendors, and council members & staff during scheduled work or in absence of the Camp Property Manager/Director.
  • Support special projects and seasonal tasks as directed.
  • May assist with maintenance efforts or project work at other council properties as needed.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of experience in facilities and grounds maintenance work required.
  • Demonstrated or documented ability to safely operate a range of maintenance tools and outdoor equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic building systems including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and groundskeeping.
  • Current knowledge or willingness to obtain training in safe use of equipment and tools such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and utility vehicles.
  • Understanding of workplace safety and environmental compliance standards.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to follow through on assigned tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work professionally with girls, volunteers, vendors, and staff.
  • Valid State Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record; proof of insurance for personal vehicle.
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade or technical training preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

 

Working Conditions:

  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions includes rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • Physically demanding work includes lifting 50+ pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
  • Maintains a regular weekly schedule with some flexibility to adjust hours during peak seasons or special events, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays, as needed. Must be able to respond to emergency after-hours calls when necessary.
  • Council vehicles may be used for work-related tasks; adherence to vehicle policy is required.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

Must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully complete a background and driving records screening.
