POSITION SUMMARY

The Production & Packaging Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and oversight for both production and RTE packaging operations. This role ensures that all teams (operators and leads) work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards. The Supervisor is responsible for staffing, training, performance management, and continuous improvement across raw production, kill-step operations, and ready-to-eat packaging areas. Acting as the link between frontline employees and senior management, the Supervisor drives results while building a culture of accountability, teamwork, and food safety excellence.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervise, coach, and develop Production Operators, Production Leads, Packaging Operators, and Packaging Leads.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, food safety, GMP, RTE zoning, and sanitation requirements.
  • Oversee production and packaging schedules to meet customer demand and efficiency targets.
  • Collaborate with QA, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to resolve issues and support audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, downtime, and defects. 

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES  

  • Direct and coordinate daily activities across production and packaging lines.
  • Manage shift schedules, labor assignments, and staffing needs.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate safety, quality, and production priorities.
  • Monitor equipment operation, ensuring operators and leads complete CIL and sanitation activities.
  • Oversee packaging accuracy: codes, labels, weights, and seal integrity.
  • Review and approve production records, checklists, downtime logs, and incident reports.
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and corrective action to team members as needed.
  • Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
  • Identify and escalate maintenance needs, coordinating with the maintenance team for timely repair.
  • Lead investigations into safety, quality, or production incidents and support CAPA development.
  • Track KPIs such as throughput, yield, waste, downtime, and labor efficiency.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in operations, Food Science, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Demonstrated success managing both production and packaging teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety programs and audit requirements (SQF, BRC, FDA, etc.).
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and hold teams accountable.
  • Proficiency in documenting and reporting production data accurately.
  • Physical ability to work on the floor, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, or overtime.
