Position Summary

 

The Director of Development is a strategic leader responsible for executing fundraising strategies to support a $1.75M+ annual goal. This role plays a key part in shaping the newly merged Development and Marketing department, working closely with the Chief Development & Marketing Officer (CDMO) to align philanthropy and communications under a unified vision. Key charitable revenue streams include institutional & individual giving, grants, corporate sponsorships and events. This position directly manages the Development team and drives operational excellence while fostering a strong Culture of Philanthropy across the council.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the CDMO, develop and lead execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with council priorities and revenue goals.
  • Manage a multi-functional team including a Major Gifts Manager, Annual Giving & Engagement Manager, and contracted grant writer, and contracted database manager.
  • Strengthen the team’s donor stewardship, retention, and upgrade strategies, especially with gifts in the $10K–$25K range.
  • Expand and diversify the donor pipeline with a focus on alum engagement, Daisy’s Circle monthly giving program, and matching gifts.
  • Oversee fundraising events, enhancing donor engagement and maximizing revenue through strategic planning and execution.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators for donor engagement, pipeline development, and campaign effectiveness; prepare reports and dashboards to guide strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Brand & Marketing team, ensure consistent, missionfocused marketing and storytelling that supports donor cultivation and enhances the Girl Scout image across Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.
  • Actively build and manage a personal portfolio of major donors and community partners.
  • Support the development of compelling funding proposals, impact reports, and cases for support for individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Ensure donor recognition and fulfillment of sponsorship benefits, including signage, branding, and collateral, as appropriate.
  • Serve on the council leadership team, contributing to high-level strategy, crossdepartment collaboration, and organizational decision-making.
  • Champion a council-wide Culture of Philanthropy, engaging staff, board, volunteers, and supporters in advancing the mission.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • A passion for the mission of Girl Scouts.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, CFRE certification a plus
  • 5+ years fundraising experience with demonstrated success in grant writing, major gifts and donor stewardship
  • Demonstrated success supervising staff and building a collaborative, positiveteam culture
  • Experience in grant writing and management, fundraising event management, and sponsorship solicitation and benefit fulfillment.
  • Comfort navigating donor CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred)
  • Familiarity with the Kansas City philanthropic community preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including donor proposal writing.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with emphasis on building relationships and asking for gifts.

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position is remote-based, with regular travel required to the Overland Park office, various meeting locations around the Kansas City metro area, and our two camp locations.
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours to attend events and meetings.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Employment is dependent upon the results of a criminal background investigation.
