POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Community Engagement at Rockhurst High School is responsible for developing and executing strategies to foster student and parent engagement, as well as the alumni network, volunteer management, fundraising initiatives, and promoting the overall development of athletics and co-curricular programs. This role works collaboratively with the Philanthropy and Engagement Department, Athletics Department, Assistant Principal of Student Life, and school leadership to enhance resources and opportunities that align with the school's mission and values. Although a large part of this role is communication, organizing, and connecting, there is an important element that is directly related to fundraising efforts/results.  Specifically, this position, based on the relationships with parents/families and alumni, will engage financial support for various approved annual operations as well as seek continued improvements that support our student's development within the Athletics Department and Co-Curriculars.

 

The Director of Community Engagement will report directly to the Vice President of Philanthropy and Engagement, in coordination with the Principal, the Athletic Director and the Assistant Principal of Student Life.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Student & Parent Engagement:

  • Develop and execute engagement initiatives that align with the school's mission and values.
  • Foster strong relationships with students and parents to encourage active (and appropriate) engagement among participants in athletics and co-curricular activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between parents, student organizations, and school leadership to address concerns and enhance experiences.
  • Organize informational meetings, workshops, and volunteer opportunities to support Parent Formation programming.

Athletics & Co-Curricular Program Support:

  • Help coordinate community service, team masses, and other student programming.
  • Collaborate with coaches, moderators, and faculty to understand and find support for program initiatives and needs.
  • Assist in the promotion of athletics and co-curricular achievements through social media, newsletters, and events.
  • Support the Hawklet Athletics, the development of leadership, teamwork, and character among student participants.
  • Help identify, coordinate appropriate approvals, and create “Hawklet Leadership Fund” Initiatives.

 

Fundraising & Development:

  • Develop and implement strategic fundraising plans to support athletic and co-curricular programs.
  • 25 Touches weekly to active or prospective “Hawklet Leadership Fund” donors.
    • Touch classified as phone call, email, or in-person visit.
    • Establish a “Top Prospect” list for each sport and major co-curriculars to maintain consistent contact.
  • Work with appropriate Rockhurst leadership to ensure fundraising initiatives/needs/efforts are approved prior to engaging in any formal fundraising activity.
  • Cultivate relationships with alumni, parents, and community partners to secure financial contributions and sponsorships for the “Hawklet Leadership Fund”.
  • Plan and oversee fundraising events, campaigns, and donor recognition initiatives.
  • Track key metrics related to engagement and fundraising initiatives to evaluate program effectiveness. 
  • Analyze data to identify trends and inform future strategies for improvement. 
  • Maintain accurate records of donations and prepare regular reports for school leadership.
  • Coordinate with Philanthropy and Engagement in the context of overall department strategy.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, communications, or related field;
  • Proven experience in fundraising, development, or community engagement, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Clear understanding of and commitment to Rockhurst High School’s mission.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to keep appropriate conversations/knowledge confidential when dealing with different constituents. 
  • Experience with event planning and donor relations.
  • Project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously 
  • Expected to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with fundraising software and donor management systems.
  • Experience in marketing, public relations, or social media management.
  • Passion for athletics, co-curriculars, and student development.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (e.g., standing or sitting) for extended periods during meetings, events, and office work.
  • Must be able to move about campus and event spaces to attend meetings, support athletic/co-curricular activities, and facilitate events.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment such as phones, printers, and copiers.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both in person and via phone, email, and other written communication platforms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds (e.g., event materials, equipment, donor gifts).
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required for events, alumni functions, and donor engagement.
  • Must be able to travel locally, and occasionally regionally, for donor visits and community engagement activities.
