Rockhurst High is a Jesuit Catholic, college preparatory school with an enrollment of approximately 860 male students. Founded in 1910, the school strives to serve an economically, socially and geographically diverse student population within the Kansas City metropolitan area. Academic excellence is a trademark of the school as well as a diverse array of successful co-curricular activities and teams.

 

Rockhurst is presently in the final stages of producing a comprehensive strategic plan and has a well-articulated vision of its future for a talented leader to engage.

 

SUMMARY:

The principal reports directly to the president; together, they are the primary collaborators in the administration of the school. As chief academic officer, the principal is responsible for the academic and spiritual formation of faculty, staff and students, as well as supervisor for all areas of co-curricular activities, with the help of assistants.  The principal will assume duties on July 1, 2025, and both religious and lay persons are welcome to apply. 

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold and promote the Jesuit identity, mission, and values throughout the school community.
  • Integrate Ignatian spirituality into the school’s culture, curriculum, and co-curricular programs.
  • Provide spiritual leadership by fostering prayer, liturgy, and retreat opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ensure academic excellence by guiding curriculum development, teacher evaluation, and student assessment.
  • Collaborate with the President and administrative team to develop and implement the school’s strategic vision.
  • Oversee the implementation of innovative and effective teaching practices that meet the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Maintain accreditation standards and ensure compliance with state, diocesan, and Jesuit education requirements.
  • Promote the holistic development of students through academic, spiritual, athletic, and co-curricular programs.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment where all students can thrive.
  • Support student discipline with an emphasis on reflection, personal growth, and accountability.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain outstanding faculty and staff committed to Jesuit education.
  • Oversee, supervise, and participate in the work of the school’s Admissions Office.
  • Foster a culture of professional growth by providing opportunities for development and formation.
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff performance in alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources to support the school’s academic, pastoral, service and co-curricular programs.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, parents, and other stakeholders to build strong partnerships.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with a deep understanding of Jesuit spirituality and Catholic education.
  • Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field; advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of educational leadership, preferably in a Catholic or Jesuit school.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead with vision, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Commitment to Catholic principles of human dignity, justice, and a commitment to build a community of belonging.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • The role requires the ability to work in a school environment that may involve sitting, standing, walking, and light lifting for extended periods.
  • Evening and weekend events, meetings, or functions will be required.
