Job Summary:

 

Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri is seeking enthusiastic, mission-driven Part-Time Camp Staff members for positions at Camp Prairie Schooner in Kansas City, MO, and Camp Tongawood in Tonganoxie, KS. Camp Staff will serve and support Girl Scout campers by leading and encouraging young girls in friendship, creativity, and adventure. By working as role models and facilitating outdoor activities and experiences, staff will uphold the Girl Scout mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

 

This position does have available openings year-round, with the adventure/camp seasons running as such:

  • Spring Season - March-May
  • Summer Season – May-August
  • Fall Season September - November

Compensation ranging from $14.00-$16.00 based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Operate and instruct at various adventure programs potentially including: zipline, rappel, low ropes, climbing, crate stacking, archery, slingshots, traverse wall, canoeing & kayaking, tomahawk throwing, bb guns, and other outdoor experiences.
  • Ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure the Girl Scouts are engaged in the Challenge of Choice program.
  • Provide leadership to all campers.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

Schedule:

 

  • Spring & Fall – 8-15 hours per week
  • Summer – 15-30 hours per week

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Previous experience working with youth in a recreational/educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic practices of youth development, day camp programs, and activities for girls ages 6-17.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to teach campers, problem-solving and exercise independent judgment.
  • Current membership in Girl Scouts of the USA or willingness to register.
  • Minimum 16 years of age. Background check required.

Working Conditions:

 

  • Work is performed primarily in outdoor weather conditions, dirt and dust, and extreme heat or cold.
