Great Plains SPCA is searching for an Senior Pet Adoptions Advisor for the Merriam, Kansas location. Position Summary: This results-focused position ensures our pets find the right homes. Our matchmaking approach is centered on creating safe and lasting adoptions.

 

Pay Range: $19.23 - $26.44 per hour

 

Schedule: 5 days per week, including both weekend days

 

Status: Full-time | Non-exempt

Responsibilities

  • Drive results by performing safe and successful pet adoptions using excellent matchmaking and customer service skills
  • Matchmaking pets with prospective adopters by utilizing data gathered through asking appropriate questions, meet and greets, and understanding each pet’s medical and behavioral needs to ensure best fit
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of all pets in our care and all adoption policies and procedures
  • Achieve monthly adoption, donation and retail goals
  • Administrative duties include data entry, inventory management, data analysis and reporting
  • Manage adoption process from start to finish, including all paperwork
  • Problem solve and think creatively to drive positive outcomes for customers and animals in our care
  • Ensure efficient and effective interdepartmental communication, procedures, and processes
  • Provide best in class customer experience to all visitors, volunteers and staff
  • Ability to diffuse conflict and de-escalate situations when necessary, including denying adoptions in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Share information to the public on all GPSPCA services and programs, communicating the organization’s culture, philosophies, and mission in a positive manner
  • Monitor health and behavior of adoptable animals, reporting concerns to Shelter Medicine or Behavior teams as needed
  • Ensure the adoptions area is always clean and tidy
  • Other duties as assigned by managers or directors

Qualifications

  • Understand animal behavior and common issues to educate adopters to create lasting and safe adoption matches
  • Speak to an animal’s medical or behavioral needs in a clear and positive manner when discussing with an adopters
  • Manage multiple situations, people, and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to manage daily tasks and resolve conflicts with minimal guidance
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Displays maturity, good judgment, professionalism, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic in stressful situations
  • Compassion and empathy for animals and humans
  • Accurate typing, data entry, and computer skills

Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of related sales and customer service experience in a fast-paced corporate environment
  • Must be familiar with computer functions and programs such as Internet and web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and PetPoint
  • Knowledge and work-related experience with animals

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Handle and restrain animals weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Lift 50 lbs. to waist height
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and reaching
  • Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats of all ages and temperaments
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)

 

Work Conditions:

  • Must be able to work weekends
