Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Customer Operations, the Community Outreach Specialist is a part-time, non-exempt position as part of the GSKSMO Membership “Street Team” and generates new contacts for Girl Scouts by sharing, representing, and promoting the Girl Scout brand and mission. Most hours will be worked on nights and weekends in the community, working approximately 10 hours a week. The Community Outreach Specialist position will also gain valuable experience by being a part of the Membership Recruitment Team and collaborating with teammates to increase brand awareness in the city. This is a hybrid position and requires some work from an office and home but will primarily be focused on evening and weekend events within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area.

 

Starting salary for this position is $15.00 per hour. 

Responsibilities

• Acts as a brand ambassador for Girl Scouts within the community by using current and consistent brand language and messaging as part of the GSKSMO Membership Street Team.
• Attend events in the community and actively engage with attendees to tell them more about the local Girl Scout program.
• Work on special initiatives and campaigns to help exposure to diverse communities.
• Responsible for creating and generating new contacts for GSKSMO at assigned events.  
• Cultivates and builds collaborative relationships with community leaders and organizations to market Girl Scouting.
• Find, share with recruitment team, and implement new events to recruit new families to the program.  
• Must work a minimum of 10 hours a week and commit to working two community events per month (primarily afternoons, evenings, and weekends).
• Must have reliable transportation to various parts of the KC Metro area. This position is primarily out in the community.
• Attend staff and team meetings as needed.
• Helps with additional recruitment activities as needed.

Qualifications

Competencies and Areas of Expertise May Include:
• Oral and Written Communication abilities including public speaking- expresses ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner appropriate for the individual or group; has demonstrated ability to market the Girl Scout value proposition in small and large group settings.
• Self-management and assurance - The position requires the ability to work autonomously with drive, enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility to go along with a willingness to work as needed to accomplish job requirements.  Candidates must also possess the ability to set and accomplish goals. You should be able to work independently and work well with a team as you will work alongside the membership team.
• Judgment and Decision-Making – recognizes when immediate action is required and when sufficient information has been obtained to make a decision; supports decisions or recommendations with data and/or reasoning; defines and implements solutions to problems.

Education and Experience:
• High school graduate or GED equivalent
• Possess interpersonal, customer service, or network skills
• One-year professional or volunteer experience preferred
• Bilingual language skills strongly preferred
• Valid Driver License with an acceptable driving record
• Employment is dependent upon the results of a criminal background investigation.
