Camp Custodian is responsible for providing day to day custodial needs of Camp Prairie Schooner in Kansas City, MO, cleaning and preparing buildings, offices, program spaces, dining spaces, and outdoor areas and rental facilities for guests in accordance with the council’s policies and standards. The position works under the direction of the Camp Services & Training Specialist, to ensure for Girl Scout members that the camp property and facilities provide a clean and safe camping experience and environment.

 

This position is part-time and works between 15-20 hours/week during the months October-April and the potential of up to 25-30 hours/week May-September. Hours are scheduled as needed and dependent on time of year and camp activities requiring additional time. Evening & weekend availability required.

 

Compensation ranges from $16.00-$18.00/hour based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Camp Services & Training Specialist, maintains buildings in a safe, attractive, and clean condition and contributing to a positive visitor experience.
  • Responsible for well-organized and proper storage of custodial equipment and supplies, camp recreational items and other camp resources.
  • Maintain positive relationships with Girl Scout team members and members.
  • Prepares sites/buildings for users; aids site users by responding to custodial and maintenance requests in a timely manner and by responding to other site and users’ needs. Ensures smooth transition between user reservations.
  • May assist in contacting member reservations weekly as needed or directed, to prepare members for their stay and respond to any questions.
  • Works with other outdoor program and property staff as needed to ensure a fun, safe, and clean camping environment.
  • Communicates appropriately and in a timely manner with supervisor and/or camp property team when building/facility maintenance is identified.
  • May assist with other outdoor property, programmatic and special project related tasks as needed.
  • Assist in the maintenance and procurement of supplies, ensuring that they are well-stocked and in good condition.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of related experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the
  • Valid State Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Current vehicle insurance on personal vehicle

Working Conditions:

While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and the risk of electrical shock.
