Sunflower Neonatology Associates (SNA) is a diverse private practice neonatology group founded in 2004 that provides family centered, evidenced, based medical care for ill and premature infants. Our neonatal nurse practitioners provide in house coverage of neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for four local HCA Midwest hospitals in the Greater Kansas City region as well as Providence Medical Center. Due to the multiple contracts SNA has secured, associates are provided the opportunity to work at multiple locations.   

 

Sunflower Neonatology Associates is currently hiring for an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) and is considering resumes for candidates seeking Full-Time (preferred), Part-Time, and PRN employment. Shifts types are based on hospital levels:

  • Level II hospitals: 24 hours shifts
  • Level III hospitals: 12 hour Day and Night shifts

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the medical care for neonatal patients in Level II and Level III NICUs. This includes providing necessary emergency, acute, and supportive care for the ill neonate. In addition, the NNP works in close collaboration with the family, the medical team, and hospital staff to meet the specific needs of the infant.

Responsibilities

  • Attends deliveries of high-risk infants as requested by OB personnel.
  • Provides primary care for high-risk neonates upon delivery to include evaluation and supportive care in the delivery room as indicated by clinical exam, resuscitates the infant when necessary, and transfers to intensive care nursery, as appropriate.
  • Obtains OB/medical history and physical assessment, to prioritize, develop, and implement an initial plan of care based on infant’s clinical status. Determines the differential diagnoses and management of presenting problems and discusses the identified problems and their management plan with the neonatologists.
  • Able to carry out necessary procedures such as resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, LMA placement, PIV placement, UVC/UAC, PICC placement, lumbar puncture, venipuncture, arterial puncture, exchange transfusion, thoracentesis, thoracostomy, abdominal paracentesis, suprapubic bladder tap, LMA, and cardioversion.
  • Responsible for daily rounding on a group of NICU patients in collaboration with attending neonatologists and multidisciplinary health care team. Working efficiently and productively, selecting and interpreting necessary diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, making referrals, and documenting clearly in the patient medical record.
  • Requires clear, professional communication skills. Able to discuss other’s and own ideas in an open, objective manner and stay focused on goal of providing the best quality care to neonates and their families. Recognizes and takes initiative for appropriate actions to resolve conflicts.  Maintain respectful and professional working relationships.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and professional attitude toward self and others. Often being the leader of the team, working under stress, and knowing when to ask for help whenever necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Master of Science in Nursing required unless certification is grandfathered. National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. 
  • Active Kansas and/or Missouri APRN licensure, NRP, and BLS required.
  • Experience as a registered nurse, including two in a neonatal intensive care unit (preferred).
  • Clinical experience as an APRN working in a Level III-IV NICU (preferred).
  • Must be able to work effectively in crisis situations and possess critical thinking skills to make independent decisions.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
