The Outdoor Specialist manages the delivery of the Girl Scouts Leadership Experiences in the Outdoors. He/she leads a team of seasonal staff, and volunteer staff; communicates and promotes outdoor experiences participation on and off Council owned properties; assists with program design, development, delivery & evaluation. Employee must reside within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area and attend regular in person meetings.

• Manage the planning, design, and implementation of progressive and bold experiences in outdoor program areas: Aquatics, Camping, Excursions, Equestrian, Sports and STEM.
• Management of outdoor programs on and off site including, day/weekend excursions, outdoor trainings, outdoor activities, Journeys, Badge days and enhancing troops’ experiences.
• Supervises a team of volunteers to include outdoor training/education, outdoor STEM and others as needed; leads and coaches volunteers in a manner consistent with Girl Scout vision resulting in excellent participant satisfaction.
• Make decisions and judgements related to overall program delivery and safety in the best interest of the member participants.
• Focuses on inclusive and universal design to embrace diverse volunteers and girls.
• Encourages others to participate as active team members in an effort to support the work of Girl Scouts.
• Ensure all programs meet Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints required by Girls Scouts of the USA.
• Work with Associate Director, with routine program and staff evaluation.
• Assist whole Outdoor Department as needed to reach annual goals.

• Associate degree or technical certification required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred or any combination of education, training, and experience relevant to the position.
• Two to four years of progressively responsible related experience, such as leading teams and youth program management.
• Experience organizing programs and events for children.
• Experience with, preparing clear and concise reports, record keeping and other written materials for supervisor, colleagues, school staff, girl participants and parents.
• Valid Driver License with acceptable driving record and proof of current insurance coverage.
• Computer skills including proficiency in the most current versions of Windows and Office (Word and Excel), Salesforce and ability to use the Internet
• Bilingual – a plus, but not required.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in primarily outdoor weather conditions, dirt and dust, and extreme heat or cold. As well as some work performed at home or in office environments.
