OMNI has been retained by United Way of Greater Kansas City in their search for a Director, Workplace Giving. UWGKC serves as a non-profit, focused on bettering the communities of Kansas City by providing or allocating social services focused on health, education and financial stability.


This high-level leader believes that solutions to complex social problems are possible when Kansas Citians are united for transformative change.


Primary responsibility is for the development and execution of comprehensive corporate relationship management strategies and donor retention within the Workplace Giving Teams’ portfolio. Manages and directs a team of Workplace Giving Managers and Associates, ensuring the execution of tailored strategies necessary to establish and preserve UWGKC as the primary philanthropic conduit between Corporate Partners, their employees, and the greater Kansas City community.  Ensures the delivery of a year-round engaging experience for all Corporate Partners within team’s portfolio. This position reports to the Vice President, Workplace Giving.


Corporate Account Management

  • Develop and define strategies to increase annual revenue, attract and retain donors and promote year-round engagement within assigned portfolio.
  • Build relationships across functions and levels within companies including but not limited to executives, management, foundation, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications.
  • Oversees the management and engagement of key volunteer leaders in the implementation strategies within Workplace Giving Teams’ portfolio.
  • Increase participation and average giving by building a network of UWGKC ambassadors within corporate partner relationships.
  • Define and implement strategies to develop relationships, strategies may include sharing data, creating customized campaign activities, personalizing the relationship, etc.
  • Stay apprised of trends or issues in relevant industries that affect business climate or culture, and economic environment which could impact fund development.
  • Create and give presentations to corporate partners demonstrating UWGKC impact in the community.
  • Accountable for completing face-to-face meetings with executives and key influencers at our corporate partners.
  • Support and manage executive level volunteers to assist in solicitation and stewardship calls with corporate partner stakeholders.

Annual Account Planning:

  • Provide team members timely, candid and constructive performance feedback.
  • Openly communicate key developments that have potential on corporate accounts and relationships to Workplace Giving Leadership.
  • Support team member development and provide challenging opportunities that enhance growth.
  • Direct responsibility for building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key corporate partners within an assigned account portfolio.
  • Establish goals and expectations for all team members.
  • Assure coordinated and clear individual and team goals are identified and monitored.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • In partnership with Individual Giving staff, design and execute cultivation plans for Leadership and Tocqueville Society donors that will result in retention and growth in giving.
  • Partner with the Donor Engagement Team to connect corporate partners with tours, impact opportunities and other volunteer projects.
  • Work with UWGKC’s Community Impact and Philanthropy teams to identify, develop and implement opportunities to communicate community impact work and UWGKC goals and priorities to key stakeholders within our corporate partners

Operational Excellence:

  • Direct and manage responsibilities to each team member within assigned portfolio.
  • Provide ongoing leadership, training, and supervision for workplace giving team members, including assignment of work responsibilities, participation in hiring process, and for improvements as necessary.
  • Request and review regular reports to assess progress of campaigns and develop process improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed donor and account information in appropriate databases.
  • Regularly assess progress to goals, identifying what drives and impedes progress, work to develop solutions to address gaps.
  • Contribute to building a positive, results-oriented, donor-centric culture that delivers upon UWGKC’s operational and financial objectives.
  • Oversees the training of new Workplace Giving Team members.
  • Ensures the processes of the Workplace Giving Team are established, documented, maintained, and improved.


  • Bachelor’s degree required in philanthropic studies, public administration, business, public relations, communications, marketing or another related field.
  • Three – five years of successful sales or fundraising experience.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism, demonstrated intellectual curiosity, ability to resolve conflict constructively, strong performance management and evaluation capabilities including the willingness and ability to ensure accountability.
  • Demonstrated leadership in relationship building and management, both inside and outside UWGKC is critical. The ability to think strategically and create commitment to fostering an inclusive environment consistent with UWGKC’s focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Must have the ability to prepare, explain, and monitor performance, manage a diverse group of donors and volunteers, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWGKC team.
  • Proficient computer/CRM experience required.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive data.

  • Develop and execute strategies to produce an increase in donors and donor retention in portfolio of accounts aligned with the established objectives of the institution.
  • Manage and lead direct reports to achieve these same objectives.
  • Employee campaign managers express a high level of satisfaction with their training and engagement with UWGKC.
  • Staff express a high level of satisfaction with training and development
  • Represent the UWGKC brand and mission with professionalism and passion to advance giving, engagement and brand value.
