    The Family Services Manager is responsible for maintaining a home-like, supportive atmosphere of extraordinary, compassionate and gracious hospitality, ensuring that services and programs are provided in a manner consistent with RMHC-KC policies and core values. 

     

    The schedule for this position consists of four (4), ten-hour shifts from 7:00 pm – 5:00 am on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

     

    Responsibilities

    A Day in the Life of a Family Services Manager:

    • Maintains and supports a culture of excellence and positivity for RMHC-KC families and staff by modeling leadership principles with a sense of compassion, integrity and grace. Supports and carries out RMHC-KC’s Mission:  “To reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families.”
    • Monitors and ensures proper enforcement of program rules. Ensures the safety and security of guests and staff by addressing challenging guest family situations (i.e.: verbal/physical abuse, intoxication, etc.) in a professional manner, always focusing on the safety, security, and well-being of guest families, staff, and volunteers. Immediately notifies supervisor of all safety and security incidents, and properly documents all incidents in accordance with RMHC-KC procedures.
    • Performs quality control checks, including arrival and departure audits of guest rooms and common areas, to ensure a high level of cleanliness and consistency with RMHC-KC’s standards. Collaborates with the Facilities department to coordinate necessary maintenance and repairs, ensuring services are as least disruptive to guests as possible, in accordance with RMHC-KC procedures.
    • Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Programs, demonstrates leadership by strategizing, researching, and recommending programs enhancements, modifications/updates to existing guest rules, and RMHC-KC program policies and procedures, for the purpose of furthering the charity’s mission and strategic plan. Presents information to the Associate Director of Programs, and other Family Services Managers, at twice monthly management meetings to ensure program cohesion and consistent management of program staff and volunteers.  
    • Immediately responds to guest complaints, taking prompt and appropriate action to resolve problems and ensure RMHC-KC’s standards are maintained. Notifies supervisor of all guest complaints, and properly documents all information in accordance with RMHC-KC procedures.
    • Trains, coaches, and supervises staff, ensuring their understanding and compliance with RMHC-KC policies, procedures and core values. Encourages staff to strive toward programmatic goals regarding efficiency, occupancy, and guest satisfaction. Demonstrates leadership by facilitating and attending Family Services Coordinator staff meetings.
    • Provides leadership and empowerment to all program support staff, allowing them to grow professionally within RMHC-KC. Shares pertinent information from All-Staff meetings and Professional Development trainings to enhance their skills and knowledge of charity programs and operations. 
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with RMHC-KC’s policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising introductory and annual performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in an effective, timely manner.
    • Under the leadership of the Associate Director of Programs, supports RMHC-KC’s Strategic Plan and ensures accountability through successful implementation of assigned objectives. Utilizes guest survey data as a guide for program enhancement; formulates ways to meet/exceed various annual strategic planning goals. 

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Business, or Hospitality Management preferred.  May be substituted by six (6) to eight (8) years relevant work experience managing residential facilities, including ability to lead, motivate, and supervise staff, required.  Experience with social service or hospitality environments in which customer service and satisfaction are priorities, required.  Position requires reasoning ability, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make strategic decisions, set priorities, interpret policies, and develop procedures.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.  Proficiency with Google applications including Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs preferred.

    • Demonstrate discretion and compassion when dealing with family, guest and staff concerns
    • Possess ability to evaluate, interpret and implement policies and procedures, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Express ability to complete activities/projects in a timely manner, on or before scheduled deadlines, with minimal errors
    • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of RMHC-KC policies, program procedures, and successfully enforce and explain policies and procedures to guests, staff, and volunteers as needed 
    • Maintain confidentiality of all family, guest, staff and volunteer information
    • Travel to all parts throughout the RMHC-KC’s campus, including the RMHC-KC Family Room
    • As a professional working within a social service environment, must be in good physical health and free from Tuberculosis, as verified by TB testing

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Bilingual fluency in written and oral Spanish/English; Experience managing 24/7 residential facilities; Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Business, or Hospitality Management preferred.
