The Program Specialist, Community Impact position will require a leader who believes that solutions to complex social problems are possible when Kansas Citians are united for transformative change. The primary responsibility will be to provide management support to a variety of key functions within the Community Impact department at UWGKC. 

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Community Impact, this position will manage budgets, grant reporting and timelines, agreements and written communication to support Community Impact Initiatives - as well as provide project management and support for UWGKC literacy programs.

Grant management:

• Deliver timely reporting to key stakeholders
• Deliver actions required to meet deadlines for effective grant utilization
• Managing budgets through Excel documentation

Manage Partner Funding:

• Secure signed contracts and agreements as required by funding agreements
• Make timely updates to agreements as required
• Communicate with partner agencies related to funding agreements
• Complete UWGKC accounting processes for agreed-upon payments to partners

Project Management and Coordination:

• Provide oversight and management of UWGKC supported programs, particularly literacy and early childhood programs including My Very Own Library, Success by Six, and Dolly Parton Imagination Library
  • Manage budgets and ensure complete accounting processes
  • Collaborate with key staff from the programs to develop and ensure timelines are met
  • Facilitate funding procedures
• Serve as an effective ambassador for United Way’s work by representing the organization in community-engaged roles beyond the position’s core duties, with an eye toward raising United Way’s profile in the community and fostering key relationships that may be leveraged in support of organizational goals.

Development of written communication and content for Community Impact Initiatives:

• Development of content for Grant related documents
• Complete research and identify key facts for Community Impact written communications
• Complete written reports or summaries for public education about Community Impact Initiatives

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a field of study related to social work, education, government/public policy or other field related to health and human services.
• Two-three years of successful project management experience, preferably in the nonprofit, education or government sectors.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience with development of written communication. An ideal candidate would have grant writing experience. 
• Must have the ability to prepare, explain, and monitor program performance, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWGKC team.
• Proficient computer skills and experience required, particularly Excel, Microsoft Office and project management tools.
• Requires orientation to detail, flexibility, proactive approach, and ability to work independently.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
• Represent the UWGKC brand and mission with professionalism and passion to advance giving, engagement and brand value.
