    For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.

     

    A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.

     

    They are seeking a Transitional Living Program (TLP) Youth Advocate to join their team. Full-time and PRN shifts are available.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    The goal of the Transitional Living Program is to teach life skills and prepare homeless youth ages 18-21 for independent living, and to connect them with permanent housing.  The Youth Advocate will provide support and assistance for TLP youth including arranging activities, transporting youth to work and other appointments, providing crisis intervention, and helping youth learn to maintain a clean and safe environment. This position is expected to model safe, respectful boundaries, maintain open communication and provide effective, consistent and professional care for youth.

    • Provide on-site support and supervision of TLP youth; help youth accomplish their education, employment, and other goals, intervene when youth are in crisis, and transport youth to work and other appointments.
    • Interact with youth in an effective, healthy and professional manner to implement daily program activities and to ensure positive peer interactions.
    • Administer approved medications, first aid, and CPR according to training guidelines.
    • Document all significant events/encounters including observed behavior, progress on goals, visits by family, friends, and other agency representatives, medication(s) administered, rule infractions and other required information by the end of each shift. Enter accurate data into program’s database.
    • Full-time Youth Advocates serve on an on-call rotation and assist with after-hours crises that occur during their on-call week.

     

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED, and two years of verifiable work experience in a related field; or two years college and verifiable work experience. Prefer experience in working with homeless or at-risk youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
    • Must pass state screening for child abuse, a criminal background check, and a drug test. Must be at least 21 years old. 
    • Must possess valid driver’s license, be insurable by agency insurance carrier, and have ability to operate the van. 
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 2010, including email (Microsoft Outlook).
