For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.


A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.


They are seeking a Youth Street Outreach Worker to join their team.




The Youth Street Outreach Worker will provide trauma-informed and culturally competent case management for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth.  In addition to direct client services, this position is also responsible for community outreach including delivering school presentations, staffing resource tables at school and community events, building relationships with school counselors/social workers, and helping operate the Safe Place network in the Kansas City Metro Area.

  • Responding to outreach calls from runaway/homeless/street youth. Meeting with youth at community locations, including 2 agency drop-in centers, to provide advocacy, referrals, and community resources as needed.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with community agencies, schools, and other youth-serving contacts to spread awareness of youth homelessness and the resources available for youth.
  • Planning & conducting activities & workshops for runaway and homeless youth in the community (drop in centers, libraries, schools)
  • Serving on the on-call rotation for the Safe Place Program; responding to calls 24/7 during on-call shift.
  • Participating in required staff development trainings, staff meetings & community youth-oriented coalition meetings.



  • Associates Degree or equivalent form two year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with positive youth development experience, specifically with homeless youth and LGBTQ youth, preferred. Must be familiar with local resources for homeless youth. 
  • Must be at least 21 years old. 
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, be insurable by agency insurance carrier, and have ability to operate the outreach van. 
  • Must pass state screening for child abuse, criminal background check, and drug test.
  • Must be able to lift and load outreach supplies into van (25 lbs.)
