For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and supportive services for all persons experiencing homelessness as they move toward independence and self-sufficiency.


A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including adult singles, couples, gay, straight and transgendered individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, traditional and non-traditional families, Veterans, returning citizens, persons and families living with HIV/AIDS, and individuals with mental and physical disabilities.


They are seeking an Accountant to join their team.


Under the supervision of the CFO/COO and in collaboration with the CEO and Contracts Manager, the Accountant performs business, accounting, administrative, and development assistance for reStart, Inc.

  • Perform month-end close and compiling of financials.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation including data entry, preparing of supporting schedules, and compilation of budget analysis for review by CFO/COO.
  • Assist with annual audit by preparing audit schedules, SEFA schedule of federal awards, and other audit related tasks as needed.
  • Assist with development requests including budgets for grant request, interim and final budgets for grant reports and attendance at grant disucssion meetings.
  • Assist Contracts Manager with monthly government contract billings as assigned including inputting data, printing off supporting documentation which can include invoices, payroll forms, cleared check copies, and so forth.


  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, often interrupted environment.
  • Two-three years accounts receivable experience.

  • Two-three years accounts payable, receivable and payroll experience.

  • Experience with grant funding in a nonprofit work setting a plus.

  • Knowledge of Windows-based applications (Abila MIP is the accounting software used and Abila Fundraising 50 is the development software used.)

  • Excellent proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting.
