For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.

 

A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.

 

They are seeking a Transitional Living Program (TLP) Coordinator to join their team.

 

 

Responsibilities

The goal of the Transitional Living Program is to teach life skills, prepare homeless youth ages 18-21 for independent living, and to connect them with permanent housing.  The TLP Program Coordinator will provide full-time case management support to TLP youth including assisting each youth with developing goals, connecting youth to community resources, assisting with school enrollment, employment, medical care, learning how to budget and other life skills. The TLP Program Coordinator supervises Youth Advocates, the direct care staff who provide daily support onsite for TLP youth. The TLP Program Coordinator serves on a weekly on-call rotation for the TLP Program

  • Work one-on-one and in groups with youth to obtain skills and knowledge in: time management, financial education and budgeting, education and training options, health and nutrition, cooking skills, sexual health, healthy relationships, substance abuse prevention, and other life skills.  Connect youth to permanent housing after TLP stay.
  • Document all significant events/encounters including observed behavior, passes and visits, program participation and other required information. Complete monthly statistics and data entry in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a liaison between youth and external agencies as well as other internal reStart resources.  Provides youth with referral sources and connects to community resources. 
  • Supervise and train Youth Advocates. Participate in staff meetings, community networking opportunities, and the required 40 hours of training annually.
  • Serve on the on-call rotation and be prepared to come in after hours if a crisis occurs during the on-call shift.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work (or related degree) required, with minimum of two years of experience in social services. Prefer experience in working with homeless or at-risk youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 2010, including email (Microsoft Outlook).
  • No past record of convictions for abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children, elderly, or persons with disabilities. Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug test. Must be at least 21 years old. 
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, be insurable by agency insurance carrier, and have ability to operate the agency van.
