For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.


A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.


They are seeking a Director of Resource Development to successfully advance the mission of reStart through the management of resource development activities for the agency's annual campaign and capital campaign.


Reporting to the President & CEO, this position is responsible for coordinating the short and long-range plans for all resource development activities for the annual campaign and capital campaign, including goals, objectives, and implementation strategies, with detailed plans of action. This individual is expected to supervise the management of volunteers and in-kind gifts.

  • Develop, coordinate, plan, implement and manage resource development activities for the annual campaign and capital campaign, including volunteers, in kind gifts, and marketing:
    • Coordinate maintenance of and reports on all donor and prospective donor data.
    • Coordinate major gift activities.
    • Coordinate annual and capital campaign activities.
    • Coordinate annual special events.
  • Foster positive, collaborative relationships with all staff, volunteers and key contacts, including local community leaders, regulatory entities, state, federal and local governments, and related constituencies.
  • Assure the professional writing and timely submission of all grant proposals and reports for the annual campaign.
  • Research or initiate research and data compilation on potential individuals and corporate and foundation donors.
  • Coordinate development and maintenance of donor records, including donor database.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate production and distribution of reports and related compliance information as requested by reStart management, the Board, funders, grantors and related external sources.
  • Coordinate activities for all site visits from funders.
  • Oversee and administer all matters related to planned giving, including wills, bequests, trusts and annuities.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of marketing, public and community relations strategies, plans, and materials, including those needed for programs, gift recognition, appeal letters, etc.
  • Manage all departmental personnel activities, including hiring, training, employee relations, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the President and CEO.



  • 10 years' progressively successful fundraising/administrative experience in a nonprofit setting, preferably with major gifts, special events and capital campaigns.    
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and success with funding sources associated with various and related social programming initiatives.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents – internal staff members, senior leadership professionals, external partners, and funders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree and/or fund raising accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Requisite professional training, certification and licensure as may be required for specific programming initiatives offered through reStart.
  • Current KS/MO driver's license in good standing, with insured personal vehicle.
