For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.

 

A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.

 

They are seeking a Cook I to join their team.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in preparing and cooking a variety of food for residents living in the reStart shelter. This involves prepping, serving and cleaning up three meals per day for residents, and preparing sack lunches and held meals for clients with work commitments outside of the building.

  • Prepare and cook a variety of food for 50-200 people.
  • Prepare sack lunches, held meals, and alternative foods for clients with dietary restrictions.
  • Operate standard cooking equipment such as mixer, toasters, tilt skillet, oven and stove.
  • Participate in kitchen cleaning work, such as washing and cleaning equipment.
  • Clean dining room after meals; keep walk-in freezer and cooler clean and in compliance with health department standards.
  • Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces and utensils.
  • Maintain sanitation health and safety standard in work areas.
  • Assist with serving meals.
  • Work with Volunteers and Community Service Workers in the kitchen area as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Kansas City, MO Health Department Food Handler Permit.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and follow directions.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group environment.
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free; passing criminal records checks required.
