For more than 30 years, reStart Inc. has provided housing and services to homeless youth, families, men, and women to end homelessness in the Kansas City community.

 

A pioneer in the field, reStart is the only homeless agency in Kansas City serving all homeless populations, including singles, couples, gay, straight and transgender individuals, as well as youth ages 12-18, non-traditional families, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals with substance use and mental health related issues.

 

They are seeking PRN Youth Care Workers (part-time as needed, shifts vary) to join their team.

Responsibilities

The goal of the reStart Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) is to provide shelter for homeless and runaway youth ages 12-18 in an environment that is safe and secure for all participants. Youth Care Workers provide 24/7 supervision and support for youth, answer a 24-hour youth hotline, and full time staff serve as part of a weekly on-call rotation. YES staff is expected to model safe, respectful boundaries, maintain open communication and provide effective, consistent and professional care for youth.

  • Directly supervise and monitor daily activities of youth; interact with youth while providing a safe structured environment. Provide crisis intervention and first aid as needed. Administer approved medications according to the guidelines of the Missouri Child Care Association.
  • Document all significant events/encounters including observed behavior, all telephone contacts, all visits by family, friends, and other agency representatives, medication(s) administered, performance of assigned chores, rule infractions and other required information. 
  • Complete all progress notes and shift logs by the end of each shift. Complete monthly statistics tracking.
  • Answer telephone and youth hotline calls. Complete intake and discharge procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings and the required 40 hours of training annually.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and two years of verifiable work experience in a related field; or two years college and verifiable work experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years old. 
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, be insurable by agency insurance carrier, and have ability to operate the van. 
  • Must possess good communication skills, empathy, positive attitude, and be non-judgmental. 
  • Be able to complete training including First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, as well as ongoing training throughout the year.
  • Must be able to pass state screening for child abuse and a criminal police check.
  • Compensation is $12/hour.
